Gaia Ginevra Giorgi

Inforestarsi (in viaraffineria) is an installative/participatory device conceived by Gaia Ginevra Giorgi with Vittoria Assembri. Created for the project Stendalì – Suonano Ancora, the work reflects on the threshold-space and on crossing as a moment of contamination and the proliferation of new possibilities.

Through processed field recordings installed throughout the viaraffineria spaces (interviews and ambient sounds), Inforestarsi allows the voices and sounds of neighborhood meeting points, exchanges, and circulations to proliferate within the exhibition space—producing a porous and tactile experience of shared space.
From the auto-repair shops of Via Raffineria to the Chiosco Angelo, the market of Piazza Carlo Alberto, and the dance school on Via Conte di Torino, the device offers visitors/participants the possibility to rewrite and reinvent these spaces—summoning memories and folk practices to rename them and imagine new ways of being together. From the memorable to the prefigurable.

For the occasion, the artists have also designed a set of scores (instructions) for the participants, in order to activate a complex network of relationships and negotiations between inside and outside (of both building and individual). By activating memories—both intimate and collective—and allowing for play, Inforestarsi frees spaces and opens them to new meanings and directions.

According to the artists, to cross through an environment is always a relational and contextual practice of exploration, of rewriting (of memory as well as of the future), and of the temporary occupation of undesignated spaces—thus, a non-neutral action. In the clandestine gestures of “gathering,” of “making a market,” and “throwing a party,” the exhibition space becomes, through this operation, a potential site of encounter.
